Effective immediately, films msay be submitted for consideration for the 21st Neisse Film Festival, which takes place May 14-19, 2024. Films which have been produced in 2023 and 2024 and are produced or co-produced in Germany, Poland or the Czech Republic (at least one of these countries) are eligible for the competitions. The call for entries ends December 31, 2023. The final selection will be made by April 2024.
The film festival will once again award 10 Neisse Fish, the award sculptures handcrafted by the artist Andreas Kupfer in Strahwalde, along with award money totalling 26,000 Euros. In addition to the best films in each category, and the audience favorite, other awards such as best acting, best screenplay and best production design will be granted. The Filmverband Sachsen honors one film from the entire festival program portraying other cultures and countries respectfully and thus opening the way to dialogue.
The Neisse Film Festival takes place each May. First starting in 2004, the festival is unique with its more than 20 screening locations in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany along the Neisse River, and the trinational competitions showcasing current feature, documentary and short films show this particularly potently. The festival program also presents films on various topics as well as concerts, readings, exhibitions and parties. The "Focus" films draw our attention repeatedly to life and people in the three neighbor countries in particular, and to eastern Europe in general. With the title "Female Perspectives," this year's Focus gives the female perspective in film especial attention.
